Call it an entry-level bottling but there's nothing entry-level about this sweet little number. Light and fresh, juicy and fruity, oh so easy to drink and with just the right amount of funk to keep the party in your mouth poppin! Wild strawberry, raspberry and a tiny pinch of black pepper with a suggestion of leafy and mineral notes. João is entering rarified air in Portugal's natural wine world.
2021 Quinta do Lagar Novo 5a Tinto
Lisbon, Portugal
A fresh, fruity blend, with 50% of the wine comprised of Touriga Nacional, 30% of Touriga Franca and 20% of Syrah. A hyper-pure expression of the varietals. Ripe dark cherry, blackberry, fresh strawberry, spice, fragrant flowers and green vegetal notes are on the nose and on the palate too. Very juicy and intense with a finish that combines spice and ripe tannins. Medium-bodied.
2020 Famille Richel Mondeuse Paradoxe
Savoie, France
This has a deep purple colour with great structure (acidity and tannins). The aromatics are perfumed with red fruits and violets intertwined. On the palate, it opens up to ripe black cherries and violets with a generous dollop of pepper on the finish. There's a slight overtone of game but it's quite delicate and pushes the sweet fruits towards a slightly savoury finish. The acidity is evident and fresh with a smooth and light impression of tannins.
